Social Control
When a person is born in the society, the relationship with the society is established, so the person follows the beliefs, ideals, practices, activities, religion, customs, etc. of the society. Every society has its own ideals. Therefore, the need of a certain type of social control is felt to make the person compatible with the society, to give a certain direction, through which the person is made compatible with the society. In this process, the person is attached to the prevailing social system.
Social control is an important concept in sociology. This concept is very important in making the members of the society responsible in accordance with the society and culture and making them act accordingly. There has been a lot of change in the ancient beliefs, perceptions and processes of social control. When primitive society was a nomadic and hunter-gatherer production system, one strong individual of the herd controlled and directed the society. In this type of control, the main objective was to protect one's own group from outside attacking groups. In the feudal society, the big farmers and landlords kept the slaves and workers under their control. Small farmers and workers were under control in every action against the interests of landlords and feudal lords in the society. That type of control was based on informal social rules. (At the present time, the process of controlling people through social rules, values, beliefs, traditions, and anti-social and cultural activities can be called social control. The methods of which are different according to each society and culture. But the formal social control methods, beliefs and mechanisms Formal means of social control have developed in modern times
Social Conformity
Social conformity means that people accept the beliefs, desires and behavior of the group by temporarily suppressing their wishes, desires, beliefs and behaviors in order to stay in the group. (Social conformity is a type of social influence that results in a change of behavior or belief in order to fit with a group.)
Every society has its own social rules, laws, customs and beliefs. Social conformity is the process of showing acceptance of the beliefs, customs, traditions, and laws of the society in order to fit in, live or stay in the society, regardless of one's personal opinion about those traditions, customs, and rules. Social Conformity can be explained with an example to understand. Suppose there is a group of 10 friends. Among those friends, 8 people like pop songs and 2 people like folk songs, but when they start singing and playing pop songs while sitting in a group, the person who likes folk songs also finds it fun to sing and play pop songs. One cannot say that a pop song is not good, and if one does not say, it is called conformity. Why a friend doesn't oppose pop songs, if he opposes or dislikes pop songs, he can't stay in the group of friends. Similarly, suppose there are 5 students in college and 4 of them like to go to college wearing sarees, one person finds it easier to walk wearing kurta-salwar than saree, then when 4 people start going to college wearing sarees, then from the next day those who come to college wearing kurta-salwar also wear sarees.
Social Deviance
In general, social deviance refers to activities that go against society's values, beliefs, and social rules without accepting them. In other words, doing something that is not clarified by the law of the state and doing something that harms the society is called social deviance. In fact, it is difficult to give a universal definition of what social deviation is because social values that are right/good in one society may be bad or wrong in another society. For example: before the practice of sati in Nepal, encouraging the wife to commit sati after the death of the husband was okay, but now encouraging the wife to die is considered bad and prohibited by law. At other times, criticizing the activities of the government was considered punishable, but on the day of Gaijatra, criticizing the government can be justified and not punishable. Opposition to the government in the panchayat system is social Words.
If it was considered as a deviation, it is considered normal in the republic. Therefore, there is no universal definition of deviance and it cannot be said that social deviance is always good or bad in some contexts, times and circumstances. Stealing in the exam is a deviation but the student who always fails gets passed the exam by stealing and through that he becomes a big person in the society. Its meaning is that social deviation is always an indication of a situation that cannot be said to be just bad. For example: Brahmin making shoes and doing business was not socially appropriate or considered good, but if by making shoes or doing business, he gains position, prestige and honor in the society, then it is considered good. Even if it is against the social values of yesterday, the result is good. Therefore, social deviation should be measured quantitatively. Therefore, social deviance must be understood in a complex way. 1 Social deviance means activities that are in conflict with the laws of society. For example: murder, rape, corruption, theft, robbery etc. are social deviations. Some activities in the society are prohibited by law and doing the said prohibited act is considered to be a social deviation. For example: The Constitution of Nepal, 2072 and the law clearly states that murder, violence, rape, corruption etc. are necessary deviance and if a person is involved in such activities, legal action will be taken, then such social deviance is called formal deviance. If such activities violate the society and culture or cause harm to the society and culture, then such activities are called informal social deviance.
